2023 Los Angeles Dodgers Player Reviews: Tyson Miller

Opening up the 2023 season with the Milwaukee Brewers, Tyson Miller was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 12 for cash considerations.

The Dodgers and Brewers connected on a deal after Miller was designated for assignment, and he was then assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The right-hander would make just two appearances with OKC before receiving his first call-up to Major League Baseball on July 26.

Miller got his first taste of game action that same day when Dodgers manager Dave Roberts brought him in while trailing 6-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays. Following a scoreless seventh inning, Miller went on to allow a bases-loaded, two-run single to Bo Bichette.

The Dodgers designated Miller for assignment that same week, and he was claimed off waivers by the New York Mets.

Miller appeared in just one MLB game and a handful with Triple-A Syracuse before he again was placed on waivers. That ironically landed Miller back on the Dodgers, where he spent the rest of the 2023 season.

In their August 29 game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Miller tossed two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two in a 9-1 blowout win.

In 15.1 innings at the Major League level, Miller tallied a 4.70 ERA, 5.02 FIP and a 1.24 WHIP in stops with the Dodgers, Brewers and Mets.

Tyson Miller 2023 highlight

The right-hander saw his best run of success with OKC, building on previous woes in which he struggled to limit the free pass.

Being part of the Dodgers organization helped unlock Miller’s best stuff. In seven appearances during September, Miller posted a 2.08 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and a .217 batting average allowed.

He tallied 16 strikeouts to just three walks, earning two wins in relief duty.

2024 outlook

Miller was signed by the Seattle Mariners on a Minor League deal in early November and assigned to their Triple-A affiliate. He’ll have an opportunity to catch on with the Mariners bullpen as part of an organization that has shown a solid ability to develop pitching.

Now on his fourth team in a year’s time, the Mariners are likely to analyze what allowed Miller to be fairly productive within the Brewers farm and in his stint with OKC.
