The 2023 Baseball Writers’ Association (BBWAA) Awards season has come to a close, with the Atlanta Braves’ Ronald Acuña Jr. and free agent Shohei Ohtani being named MVP of the National League and American League, respectively.
Acuña and Ohtani were each selected as unanimous winners, marking the first time in MLB history both MVP Awards were won in such fashion during one season. Moreover, Ohtani became the first player to unanimously win two MVP Awards.
The MVP is one of four awards that are annually distributed annually by the BBWAA, along with Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year. Each honor was announced on MLB Network throughout the past week.
All BBWAA ballots were submitted prior to the start of the postseason and cast by two writers representing each league city.
