The Opening Day roster for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, High-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, was set and features some of the organization’s best young talent with over half of the 2021 roster returning for the upcoming season.

The 31-man roster begins the year with 18 pitchers, 12 of which spent time with the Quakes last season. They are carrying 13 position players, three were with the team last season, and four are making their Quakes debuts in 2022.

The 2022 Quakes roster is headlined by top Dodgers prospect Diego Cartaya, who is also ranked No. 28 overall. He appeared in 31 games for the Quakes last year, hitting .298 with 10 home runs and 31 RBIs.

Cartaya is joined by five others within the Dodgers’ top-30 prospects according to MLB Pipeline.

The group is rounded out by Maddux Bruns (No. 12), Jose Ramos (No. 14), Alex De Jesus (No. 20), Luis Rodriguez (No. 25), and Jake Vogel (No. 29).

Bruns is a 19-year-old left-hander the Dodgers selected with the 29th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of UMS-Wright High School in Alabama.

First-year Rancho players also include infielders Julio Carrion and Austin Gauthier, as well as outfielders Yunior Garcia and Damon Keith.

New to the Quakes pitching staff are Kelvin Bautista, Octavio Becerra, Yamil Castillo, Ronan Kopp and Orlando Ortiz.

John Shoemaker returns for his second season with the club after leading them to a South Division Crown last season with a 67-53 record.
