The San Diego Padres postseason roster for the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers was announced, and it includes 13 pitchers and 13 position players led by Juan Soto and Manny Machado for the best-of-five matchup.
The only change from the Padres’ Wild Card Series roster against the New York Mets is the addition of Mike Clevinger while removing Brandon Dixon. San Diego carried 14 position players to only 12 pitchers in the three-game series while leaving their NLDS Game 1 starter off the roster.
Yu Darvish is scheduled to start Game 2 for the Padres, with Blake Snell and Joe Musgrove slated to pitch Game 3 and a potential Game 4, but the order of those two has not been set.
Musgrove pitched the Padres into the NLDS with an excellent performance in Game 3 of the Wild Card Series, but he would be on regular rest for Game 3 of the NLDS. Snell pitched Wild Card Game 2 on Saturday, so he would be pitching on extra rest if he goes in Game 3 this series, but he could also be an option out of the bullpen if they delay him until the potential Game 4.
Perhaps the most surprising player to make the Padres roster for the NLDS is Sean Manaea, who struggled throughout the season and that was highlighted by his outings against the Dodgers. The left-hander posted a 4.96 ERA in 158 innings, and against L.A., had an ERA of 11.72 in just 17.2 innings.
The Padres are carrying three catchers on their roster, which gives them the ability to use one of them as a pinch-hitter, and Austin Nola also has positional versatility by being capable of playing second and third base.
Fernando Tatís Jr. remains ineligible for the postseason following his suspension for a positive PED test this season.
The Dodgers also announced their 26-man roster, which includes Blake Treinen, Dustin May and Miguel Vargas among their 13 pitchers and 13 position players,
