San Diego Padres tickets to the National League Division Series and potential NL Championship Series games are being limited to fans in select counties.
If visiting the Padres’ postseason hub on their official website and attempting to follow links to buy tickets, a disclaimer indicates sales are only open to “Verified Fans, Padres Insiders and the public will be limited to the following counties and areas:
“San Diego County, Baja California, Imperial County, Southern Orange County (San Clemente, Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, San Juan Capistrano, Laguna Beach), Southern Riverside County (Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Hemet, Perris), La Paz County, Mohave County, Yuma County, and Clark County. Orders by residents outside (geo-limited areas) will be canceled without notice and refunds given.”
Game 3 of the NLDS is scheduled to be played at Petco Park on Friday. The Padres also are hosting Game 4 on Saturday.
Dodgers fans have routinely traveled well when the team plays in San Diego, and the Padres’ approach is similar to what the Los Angeles Rams and Ticketmaster enacted for the NFC championship game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Initially, NFC championship game tickets were limited to fans purchasing from zip codes within the greater Los Angeles area. The Rams ultimately wound up rescinding the ticket policy and defeating the 49ers en route to capturing the Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium.
If the Padres do not reverse course as well, Dodgers fans looking to attend the NLDS in San Diego can purchase tickets on secondary market sites.
The Padres last hosted a playoff game at Petco Park with fans in attendance in 2006.
Dodgers fans helped break Padres attendance record
During a weekend series between the Dodgers and Padres in April, Petco Park attendance for the three games totaled 133,856.
That represented the highest attendance figure in Petco Park history for a three-game series, besting the 133,456 from May 3-5, 2019, which also was for a stretch the Dodgers were part of.
