Both the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Diego Padres took down the top-seeded teams in the National League in their Division Series matchups, and now the two will battle it out in the NL Championship Series beginning on Tuesday.
The Padres defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in four games, taking Game 2 at Dodger Stadium and the next two at Petco Park. Thanks to strong pitching, mainly in the bullpen, they were able to hold the Dodgers to a historic 0-for-20 hitless streak with runners in scoring position.
San Diego rallied back from a three-run deficit in Game 4 and Padres closer Josh Hader notched his third save in three games to propel them to the NLCS against the Phillies.
The Phillies’ improbable run continued against the Atlanta Braves when they took down the No. 2 seed in the NL. After being swept by the Chicago Cubs in late September and limping into October, it proved that postseason baseball is a completely different animal.
In their three wins over the Braves, the Phillies put up 24 runs on a terrific Atlanta pitching staff in a dominant effort led by the long ball.
The Padres and Phillies have never met in the playoffs previously. San Diego reached the NLCS just twice in the history of their franchise, advancing to the World Series in both appearances. The Phillies have had more recent postseason success, reaching the Championship Series in 2008-2010, and winning the World Series in ’08.
Fox has exclusive broadcasting rights for the NLCS and can be viewed on both Fox and FS1.
Viewers hoping to stream the games can find them on the Fox Sports or TBS apps, depending on the network. Those looking for NLCS games can also find them on fuboTV.
