The Los Angeles Dodgers twice staved off elimination against the San Francisco Giants and emerged victorious in Game 5 of the National League Division Series to keep their hopes of repeating alive.
In advancing to the NL Championship Series a fifth time in the past six seasons, they are due for a rematch with the Atlanta Braves. When the teams met in the 2020 NLCS, the Dodgers overcame a 3-1 series deficit en route to winning the franchise’s first championship since 1988.
Because of qualifying for the postseason as the NL Wild Card Game winner, the Dodgers still do not have home-field advantage despite their 106-56 record being far superior to the Braves’ 88-73 mark that was good enough to win the NL East.
Should L.A. advance to the World Series, they would have home-field advantage by virtue of holding a better record than both the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox.
The Braves clinched a fourth consecutive NL East title and went into the postseason with a matchup against the NL Central champion Milwaukee Brewers. After losing Game 1, the Braves rallied with three consecutive wins to eliminate the Brewers.
Prior to this year, the Dodgers and Braves have met in the postseason in 1996, 2013, 2018 and 2020. L.A. has won each of the past three series.
Max Scherzer is expected to start Game 1 on Friday, with Max Fried going for the Braves. All NLCS games will be televised exclusively by TBS.
