The Los Angeles Dodgers are on track to at least have Cody Bellinger appear in the 2019 MLB All-Star Game at Progressive Field, based on the first returns in National League voting. Bellinger paces all players with 1,189,380 votes.
Joc Pederson is fourth among NL outfielders with 344,440 votes, and rookie Alex Verdugo placed ninth on the first return with 242,988 votes. Elsewhere, Justin Turner is third among NL third baseman in All-Star Game voting, Corey Seager is third among players at his position, Max Muncy is fourth, Kiké Hernandez is fifth, and Austin Barnes sixth.
Turner has garnered 273,586 votes thus far, which has him behind the Colorado Rockies’ Nolan Arenado (783,684) and Chicago Cubs’ Kris Bryant (404,855).
Seager’s 257,085 votes trail Cubs shortstop Javier Baez (861,496) and Atlanta Braves’ Dansby Swanson (286,802). However, in light of what’s believed to be a significant hamstring strain, Seager may fall further behind as he appears unlikely to be healthy come the All-Star Game.
Muncy (232,583) is well behind leading vote getter among NL first baseman, Josh Bell of the Pittsburgh Pirates (621,915). Hernandez is also separated by nearly 200,000 votes from the Braves’ Ozzie Albies, who leads NL second basemen in votes.
Bellinger got off to a historic start this season, earning NL Player of the Week honors for March 31-April 7 en route to also being named the league’s Player of the Month.
Bellinger broke multiple MLB and Dodgers franchise records before May 1, including by reaching 14 home runs and 44 total hits during March/April. Bellinger finished with 47 hits prior to the calendar turning to May.
His 14 homers through April tied with Christian Yelich for the MLB lead. Along with Bellinger and Yelich, Albert Pujols (2006) and Alex Rodriguez (2007) are the only players in MLB history to hit 14 home runs before May.
Voting for the 2019 MLB All-Star Game shifted to a new format this year and now consists of “The Primary” and “The Starters Election” rounds.
During “The Primary” voting round, fans can submit up to five ballots per 24 hours on MLB platforms, and can vote for every position, or up to 17 unique players per day on Google.
The first round of fan voting concludes at 1:00 p.m. PT on Friday, June 21. Later that evening, the top three vote-getters at each position (and top nine outfielders) in each League will be revealed on MLB Network, and they will move on to the second phase of voting.
“The Starters Election” begins at 9:00 a.m. PT on Wednesday, June 26. During this period, fans will have an opportunity to vote among the finalists at each position during a 28-hour window that closes at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27. Results from “The Starters Election” will be announced at 4:00 p.m. that night on ESPN.
During the second phase of voting, fans can vote once on MLB platforms and submit up to 17 unique player votes on Google. Vote totals will reset (votes from “The Primary” do not carry over) and the winner at each position (including three outfielders per League) will be named a starting position player for the 2019 All-Star Game.
Fans can cast their votes exclusively online and via mobile devices at MLB.com, all 30 team websites, MLB At Bat and MLB Ballpark apps, and via Google Search (U.S. and Canada only).
