The Los Angeles Dodgers held a second workout prior to the National League Championship Series beginning, but Corey Seager once again was not a participant. He received treatment for a back issue that manager Dave Roberts referred to as a “muscular thing.”

Seager injured himself on a slide Monday night during Game 3 of the NL Division Series. “It’s just one of those things that we’ve just got to be mindful of. Want to keep him off the field,” Roberts said. “He’s gotten treatment the last couple days, and every day keeps getting considerably better.”

Roberts could not definitively state whether his young shortstop would be in the lineup for Game 1 but by that same token didn’t express much concern. “I mean, there’s always a possibility (Seager doesn’t start),” Roberts said.

“With the back injury, that kind of locked him up a little bit. But right now he’s getting treatment. We’re very optimistic he’ll be in there on Saturday.”

The ailment is in addition to a sore right elbow Seager has nursed since the middle of August. Much to Seager’s chagrin, the Dodgers withheld him from the lineup for a stretch into September.

“A lot of what we’ve done even this season, just keep him off the field, helps the elbow and now with the back. So it’s just one of those things that we’ve just got to be mindful of. Want to keep him off the field,” Roberts reiterated.

Seager went 3-for-11 with a triple, two RBI, four walks and two strikeouts in the NLDS. He was held hitless in Game 3 but worked two walks against Zack Greinke.

In previously addressing his elbow, Seager simply said it’s a matter of maintenance while the Dodgers remain alive in the postseason.
