Spring Training Preview: Dodgers Host White Sox In Cactus League Finale

Most of the Los Angeles Dodgers regulars made their way back to Southern California after Friday’s 10-0 win over the Kansas City Royals, but those that remained in Arizona host the Chicago White Sox in the Cactus League finale.

Alex Wood, who is penciled to be the Dodgers No. 2 starter behind Clayton Kershaw come the regular season, takes the mound for his final spring outing before facing the San Francisco Giants next week in the second game of the regular season.

Wood is making his fifth Cactus League start this spring, and in 12.1 innings across his first four, has allowed 10 hits and four runs (2.92 ERA) while striking out 16 and walking five.

Like Kershaw on Friday, Wood will likely throw around six innings and 90 pitches. He’s coming off a dominant performance and has thrown a combined nine scoreless innings in his past two starts.

Opposing Wood is White Sox left-hander Hector Santiago, who is a non-roster invitee that is hoping to land a spot in the starting rotation.

He seems to be making his case so far, as in five games (one start), Santiago has been dominant, yielding a 0.75 ERA and 0.92 WHIP. In 12 innings pitched he has given up seven hits and one run while striking out 12 and walking four.

With a reduced number of players in camp, Kiké Hernandez gets the start at shortstop, while Kyle Farmer plays third base. Additionally, both Yasmani Grandal (catcher) and Austin Barnes (designated hitter) are in the lineup.

Andrew Toles is in center field for his first start after five straight coming off the bench.
