Washington Nationals Claim Ryan Loutos From Dodgers

3 Min Read

The Washington Nationals claimed Ryan Loutos off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester.

Loutos brings the Nationals’ 40-man roster full after an opening was recently created when they released Jorge López. Meanwhile, Loutos is now part of his third organization this year.

The right-hander was in the Minor Leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals to begin 2025 but got designated for assignment in late April. That led to the Cardinals trading Loutos to the Dodgers in exchange for cash considerations at the beginning of May.

He reported to Triple-A Oklahoma City but was added onto the Dodgers’ roster by the middle of month. Loutos’ stay was brief as he was optioned back to the Minors the following day as part of the corresponding moves so so Clayton Kershaw could be activated off the 60-day injured list.

Loutos returned to the Dodgers roster just over two weeks later.

During the multiple stints with the Dodgers, he pitched in just two games. Loutos gave up multiple runs in both appearances, and his last time on the mound for the Dodgers was June 4. That night saw Loutos pitch two innings and allow three runs in the Dodgers’ 6-1 loss to the New York Mets.

Loutos was part of the Dodgers’ search for bullpen help as they’ve navigated a rash of injuries. Over recent weeks the team also acquired the likes of Chris Stratton, Alexis Díaz, Will Klein and José Ureña as well.

Loutos and Ureña are no longer part of the organization.

Why did Dodgers DFA Ryan Loutos?

Loutos was on waivers upon being designated for assignment on June 6 when the Dodgers re-signed Stratton.

Stratton himself had previously been DFA’d and cleared waivers before rejecting a Minor League assignment in favor of becoming a free agent.
