The Los Angeles Dodgers lost a significant piece to their postseason rotation as Tyler Glasnow’s season has likely come to an end.

The news came just one day after Glasnow was scratched from his scheduled simulated game on Friday due to elbow discomfort. Although the early signs were still “promising,” scans revealed a sprained elbow for the right-hander.

The saga surrounding Glasnow’s injury has taken many twist and turns and at one point featured the club and pitcher disagreeing on what the best course of action was.

Another layer has been added to the story now as Glasnow cleaned out his locker and left the club without informing manager Dave Roberts where he would be going, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

After avoiding the media for two days, right-hander Tyler Glasnow’s locker was cleared out Sunday. Even his name plate was taken down.

Roberts confirmed that Glasnow is not with the team.

“I know he flew out. I don’t know where he flew to,” Roberts said.

When Glasnow was first placed on the injured list on Aug. 16, the club called it right elbow tendinitis and said he would miss the minimum 15 days.

Despite landing on the IL, Glasnow was unhappy with the decision, saying he felt fine and did not believe it to be necessary.

He was expected to resume throwing shortly after landing on the IL and a rehab assignment was deemed unlikely. But the start of his throwing program was delayed and he suffered a setback after his first throwing session.

Even as things trended down, the Dodgers remained “hopeful” that Glasnow would return before the season’s end.

Once he began playing catch again in late August, Glasnow began ramping up and expressed his confidence he would return in 2024. That also came with the news he actually would need a rehab assignment.

After getting through his bullpen sessions, Glasnow got to the point of having his sim game scheduled, going through the warmup process before he was scratched.

The many twists of the story may have created even more frustration between Glasnow and the team. The 31-year-old also did not address the media regarding his injury, as players traditionally do.

Why did Tyler Glasnow leave the Dodgers?

The exact reason Glasnow left the club isn’t known, and Roberts not knowing where the right-hander is makes it all the more confusing.

Glasnow could have left over something as simple as wanting to return home with his season over, but not telling Roberts would signal frustration with the way things were handled.

If the Dodgers sent him to a doctor, Roberts would have been informed of that as well. There are very few scenarios where Roberts would not be informed why Glasnow was not with the club.

One possible explanation could be Glasnow is looking for a second opinion after his disagreements with the team.

If there is any anger between the Dodgers and Glasnow, it could end up being a problem as he signed through the 2027 season. They would certainly be wise to get it figured out.
