Teoscar Hernández Injury: MRI Necessary Amid Dodgers’ Concern

3 Min Read

The Los Angeles Dodgers bounced back from having their seven-game winning streak snapped by defeating the Miami Marlins, but it may have come at the expense of a Teoscar Hernández injury.

Hernández was replaced by Chris Taylor to begin the bottom of the fourth inning due to what the Dodgers later announced was left hamstring tightness. Hernández went 2-for-2 with an RBI double prior to his early exit.

Following the Dodgers’ win, manager Dave Roberts expressed some concern over Hernández’s hamstring injury that is requiring an MRI, as seen on SportsNet LA:

“He’s going to get an MRI tomorrow. I got word that it was tight in the hamstring, adductor. He’s a guy that just doesn’t come out of games by way of injury, so that’s a little concerning given the person. So we’re going to get some pictures and see how it is tomorrow.”

Roberts added the Dodgers are planning to have a player join them from Triple-A Oklahoma City to at minimum be on the taxi squad. Given the delicate nature of a hamstring issue, it would come as a surprise if the Dodgers don’t end placing Hernández on the 10-day injured list.

Doing so would likely result in James Outman getting recalled to join the Dodgers roster. Esteury Ruiz, who was acquired in a trade with the Athletics, is another outfielder who already is on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster as well.

Impact of Teoscar Hernández injury

Aside from roster decisions, the Dodgers losing Hernández for any period of time would be significant for their offense. He has a .933 on-base plus slugging percentage this season and leads all players with 34 RBI.

The ripple effect of Hernández’s injury could also reach Hyeseong Kim. Tommy Edman is expected to be activated this weekend, and that presumably would have amounted to Kim returning to Oklahoma City. But if the Dodgers add another player from the Minors, they could become the odd man out once Edman is ready to come off the injured list.
