Steve Sax Hosting Golf Tournament For Captain John J. Sax Foundation

4 Min Read

Former Los Angeles Dodgers great Steve Sax is hosting an inaugural golf tournament at the Tierra Rejada Golf Course and a luncheon at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley on Sunday, November 5, to honor his late son, Captain John Sax.

Steve Sax lost his son on June 8, 2022, when Capt. John Sax was one of five United States Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton who were killed when their Osprey crashed while training in the California desert near San Diego.

The golf tournament and luncheon is to benefit the Captain John J. Sax Foundation, which will help support others whose purpose is to offer scholarships and grants of hardship cases to aspiring aviators.

“My son, Captain John J. Sax, was a true patriot whose devotion and love of country were immeasurable,” Sax said in a statement. “As a young boy, his love for aviation was clearly apparent as he was able to look into the sky and name the aircraft that were passing overhead.

“My son’s life dream came true when he became an aviator in the Marine Corps. Sadly, my dear son and four of his fellow Marines lost their lives prematurely in a tragic V-22 Osprey training accident on June 8, 2022.”

Speakers at the luncheon will include Congressman Mike Garcia, Steve Garvey, Steve Sax, as well as Lt. Col John Miller, who was John Sax’s commanding officer.

The foundation will also name the first recipient of a grant to a foundation for a fellow fallen soldier.
