With Spectrum SportsNet LA in their eighth season as the exclusive home of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the network again was recognized for their in-depth coverage of the team.
SportsNet LA received a 2021 Los Angeles Area Emmy Award for “Backstage: Dodgers” in the category of Sports Series, Programming (post-produced). Spectrum SportsNet won six Emmy Awards and Spectrum News 1 took home one as well.
Spectrum News 1 journalist Giselle Fernández hosted this year’s ceremony for the Television Academy. The livestreaming ceremony honored locally produced programs in the categories of Live and Breaking News Coverage, Crime and Social Issues, Culture and History, the Arts, Human Interest, Sports and the Environment.
Last year, SportsNet LA won an Area Emmy for “Access SportsNet: Dodgers” in the category of Sports Series, Live Broadcast.
After showing all Spring Training contests earlier this year, SportsNet LA is in the midst of carrying more than 150 regular season games.
Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser are back in the broadcast booth, and they are joined by reporter Kirsten Watson. She took over for Alanna Rizzo, who announced in January her intentions to be closer to family on the East Coast and has since returned to MLB Network.
SportsNet LA’s studio coverage again features “Leadoff LA” and followed by “Access SportsNet: Dodgers.” John Hartung is anchoring studio programming, where he is joined by a rotation of Nomar Garciaparra, Jerry Hairston Jr. and Ned Colletti.
Spanish language telecasts on SportsNet LA feature Hall of Famer Jamie Jarrín and Pepe Yñiguez handling play-by-play duties, with Dodgers legend Fernando Valenzuela working as an analyst.
SportsNet LA set at Dodger Stadium
This season the broadcasting team has been able to enjoy a new set on the remodeled center field plaza at Dodger Stadium. Hartung has anchored both pre- and postgame coverage from the set as fans surround them.
SportsNet LA’s coverage throughout the season has also included its award-winning “Backstage: Dodgers” documentary series that features behind-the-scenes stories of the players, coaches and management.
Other original programming includes “Timeless Dodgers” for a look back at memorable and historic games, and “Dodgers Squeeze Play,” a condensed one-hour format of telecasts enhanced with the sights and sounds from the game.
