The Los Angeles Dodgers were unable to complete the sweep of the New York Yankees, dropping the series finale by a score of 6-4 in a back and forth game.

Tyler Glasnow had the strikeout stuff working, but he struggled with run prevention this time out, mostly fueled by issues with preventing the home run.

Oswaldo Cabrera put the Yankees up 1-0 in the third with a solo home run, and Aaron Judge doubled to double the score. Cabrera has struggled overall this season, posting an on-base plus slugging of .638, but he and Trent Grisham, who has a .526 OPS, proved to be the difference in the game.

Things started to fall apart for Glasnow in the sixth with the Dodgers leading 3-2. Glasnow gave up singles to Alex Verdugo and Judge to begin the inning, and with one out, Grisham blasted a homer to give the Yankees a 5-3 lead.

Glasnow’s day ended with six innings pitched, allowing five runs on eight hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts.

After trailing 2-0 early, the Dodgers took a lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. Andy Pages doubled and Gavin Lux singled in the fifth before Mookie Betts doubled to tie the game.

Teoscar Hernández continued his hot stretch with a solo homer in the top of the sixth that gave the Dodgers the lead.

The Dodgers got to Luis Gil for all three runs, which was notable considering he hasn’t given up more than one run in a start since April 26. Since then, he’s had seven consecutive starts of going six runs or more with one run or fewer allowed.

Gil finished his day with 5.2 innings pitched, exiting after Hernández hit the homer.

Ohtani doubled in the eighth, and came around to score on a sac fly by Will Smith, making it a one-run game. They also put together a small rally with two singles in the ninth, but unfortunately it fell short.

Before the ninth, the Yankees extended their lead with a solo homer from Judge, making it a two-run deficit for the Dodgers to overcome in the final inning.

Dodgers return home

With their East Coast road trip now concluded, the Dodgers have an off day on Monday before beginning a six-game homestand against the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals.

James Paxton takes the ball in the series opener against the Rangers, followed by Walker Buehler on Wednesday and Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Thursday.
