Recap: Bullpen Game & Home Runs Power Dodgers To Win Over Angels

3 Min Read

After a tough stretch of games, the Los Angeles Dodgers have turned things around and they’re now on a winning streak of three games.

Their latest victory came against the Los Angeles Angels to open the Freeway Series in Anaheim, and they battled through adversity. Hours before the first pitch, Blake Snell was scratched from his scheduled start and then later placed on the 15-day injured list due to loose bodies in his left elbow.

Dodgers 6, Angels 0: key takeaways

Dodgers bullpen steps up

Will Klein was given the start on short notice as the Dodgers had no other options besides a bullpen game. Klein pitched two shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out two.

That was followed by scoreless innings from Edgardo Henriquez, Blake Treinen, Wyatt Mills, Kyle Hurt, Alex Vesia, Jack Dreyer and Charlie Barnes.

In total, the bullpen combined to allow just two hits while striking out 11 and walking four.

Offense slugs their way to win

The Dodgers offense combined to hit three home runs to power them to the victory.

That started with a three-run homer from Andy Pages to start the scoring in the fourth inning. Pages hit his homer after a leadoff single from Will Smith and walk by Kyle Tucker.

Max Muncy then followed with a solo shot to give the Dodgers back-to-back homers and put them up 4-0. It was the second time in their last three games that the Dodgers have gone back-to-back, and the first time since 2002 they hit back-to-back homers against the Angels.

In the sixth inning, Muncy singled with one out, and Teoscar Hernández followed with a homer, his first in roughly one month. Hernández has been swinging the bat much better as of late and now has at least one extra-base hit in three consecutive games.

Dodgers snap Angels winning streak

With their win, the Dodgers also ended a seven-game losing streak against the Angels.

Last year, the Dodgers lost all six games they played against their Southern California rivals. “Hopefully we can get a game from the Angels,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Thursday night. “They’ve sort of had our number the last few years.”

Last year was the first time the Dodgers lost the season series to the Angels since 2019.
