The Philadelphia Phillies are back in the postseason for a fourth consecutive year and are hoping for a trip to the World Series after last falling short against the Houston Astros in 2022.
The Phillies secured a first-round bye by finishing as the No. 2 seed in the National League with a 96-66 record. They are searching for their first World Series title since 2008, and their first test comes against the reigning champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
It is the sixth postseason matchup between these two franchises, although this is the first time that they are meeting in the NL Division Series. All five of their previous head-to-heads came in the NL Championship Series.
The Phillies NLDS roster consists of 12 pitchers and 14 position players. On the roster is Walker Buehler, who will have an opportunity to send his former team home.
This is the second series in a row that the Dodgers are face a former teammate in the opposing dugout. Gavin Lux started in Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series and went 2-for-5. He had three hits in six at-bats in the series overall.
Buehler left the Dodgers in free agency after winning two World Series championships in seven seasons with the club. He signed with the Boston Red Sox but was released from the team on Aug. 29 after posting a 5.45 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 112.1 innings.
Buehler signed a Minor League contract with the Phillies two days later and made three appearances for them, allowing one earned run while striking out eight batters in 13.2 innings of work.
The Phillies won the season series against the Dodgers in 2025, taking four out of six games.
Out of all the Phillies’ starting options, Jesús Luzardo had the best performance against the Dodgers in 2025. The left-hander went 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA and 14 strikeouts in two appearances against the L.A. this season.
