Mookie Betts has been finding more success at the plate as of late after enduring a rough start to his 2026 season.
Since June 9, Betts is hitting .283/.333/.453 with three doubles, two home runs and two RBI in 57 plate appearances across 13 games.
“I think there’s confidence,” Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Betts’ recent success. “I think he’s confident because his swing is in a good spot, hitting the ball hard. The last couple weeks he’s hit the ball hard but hasn’t had a lot of fortune.
“But lately he’s gotten a couple hits that are just falling, which is great. Just the quality of at-bat, hitting the ball harder.”
Betts has made an effort to hit fewer ground balls, which Roberts believes is resulting in harder contact and better results.
“I think Mookie is a pull hitter, that’s one part of it,” the Dodgers skipper said. “You don’t want to hit the ball on the ground, but you just want to square it up. So I do think that, a few weeks ago, six weeks ago, balls were in the hitting zone that I think he was elevating instead of just squaring up.
“I think right now he’s just hitting the ball hard. There’s going to be some balls on the ground. That’s inevitable, but I just think he’s just hitting the ball more consistently the right way.”
Betts had a particularly successful series against the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend as he went 5-for-12 (.417) with one double, one home run and one RBI in three games. He also had a direct impact on Dalton Rushing, who credited the eight-time All-Star for inspiring him before his walk-off hit on Friday.
Dave Roberts believes ‘arrow pointing up’ for Mookie Betts
While Betts’ overall numbers have been disappointing — he’s sporting a career-worst .666 on-base plus slugging in 44 games entering play Tuesday — Roberts recently shared a belief the four-time World Series champion is trending in the right direction.
“I think the word I would say, if I had to sum it up, is he’s been searching,” Roberts said earlier this month. “I think all year, he’s been searching. Nothing has stuck. So I think that we’re in a good spot right now with the way he’s feeling, the buy-in with the swing itself, and then now getting some results.”
