MLB Top-10 Second Basemen Right Now 2026: No Dodgers Ranked By The Shredder

3 Min Read

The Los Angeles Dodgers did not have a player ranked by The Shredder on the list of MLB Top-10 Second Basemen Right Now for a second straight season.

Also, for a second consecutive season, it was the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte who sat atop The Shredder’s rankings.

Marte is coming off back-to-back All-Star and All-MLB First Team selections, and Silver Slugger Awards. The switch-hitter also received National League MVP consideration.

The 32-year-old’s 2025 season was not as good as his previous year’s, but it was still plenty impressive. He hit .283.376/.517 with 28 doubles and 28 home runs, culminating in a 145 wRC+ that came close to his 2024 mark.

Mookie Betts was the most recent Dodgers player to be ranked by The Shredder as a second baseman. He ranked first on MLB Network’s list of MLB Top-10 Second Basemen Right Now in 2024, but primarily played at shortstop before making the full-time transition in 2025.

Miguel Rojas and Alex Freeland have been tabbed as the primary second base options for Opening Day. Hyeseong Kim was also in consideration to be Rojas’ running mate, but the 27-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City to start the season.

Kim was hitting .407 with a .967 on-base plus slugging this spring, while adding one home run, six RBI, eight runs scored and five stolen bases. He also participated in the World Baseball Classic for Team Korea, but only went 1-for-12 in his opportunities.

The Dodgers felt more comfortable letting him continue to work on consistency with his swing in the Minors than with the Major League club.

Barring a drastic change in circumstances, Freeland doesn’t fit into the long-term strategy this season despite earning a spot on the Opening Day roster. He will likely be on the outside looking in once Tommy Edman is fully healthy and is ready to be activated from the injured list.

Freeland should see most of his at-bats against right-handers until then, while Rojas gets the brunt of opportunities against southpaws.

The Dodgers see upside in Freeland’s game, specifically his patience and average exit velocity on balls in play. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also praised Freeland for his at-bat quality and ability to work a walk.
