Michael Grove will start Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Tyler Anderson is scheduled to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers roster from paternity leave to take the mound in the nightcap.

The start Tuesday afternoon will be Grove’s fourth for the Dodgers and fifth overall game. He was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City last week to make a spot start that provided the rest of the rotation with extra rest.

That was later revealed to have been particularly key for Dustin May, who was experiencing right arm soreness.

Grove has fared well in his past two starts but now faces a challenge of seeing the Diamondbacks for the second time in less than a week. He held them to two runs at Chase Field on Sept. 14 and threw a career-high five innings.

Grove is has yet to earn a decision in four games (three starts) with the Dodgers, and has pitched to a 4.40 ERA and 1.40 WHIP during that time.

Anderson’s return will come three days after he was put on the paternity list. MLB rules required Anderson to miss a minimum of three days but no more than seven. He was scheduled to start the series opener against the Diamondbacks, but that went to Clayton Kershaw, who still entered on five days of rest.

Anderson is 15-3 with a 2.62 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in his first season with the Dodgers. He’s garnered consistent praise from manager Dave Roberts at various points throughout the year, including just last week.

Pepiot 29th player on Dodgers roster

Ryan Pepiot was with the Dodgers on Monday and is expected to get recalled as the permitted 29th player for the first game of the doubleheader.

Pepiot made his MLB debut earlier this season and has already been optioned to the Minors five times, which is the maximum for one season as part of MLB roster rules, but getting sent back down after being added as an extra player on the day of a doubleheader does not count against the limit.

Pepiot is 2-0 with a 3.78 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in eight games (seven starts) for L.A.
