The Los Angeles Dodgers face a need in their outfield but also are expected to address a bullpen that was inconsistent and surprising weak point for the team.
The start of free agency saw the likes of Edwin Díaz, Devin Williams, Raisel Iglesias and Robert Suárez hit the open market. So too did Pete Fairbanks when the Tampa Bay Rays declined their 2026 option worth $11 million.
That was followed by the Dodgers being reported among the expected suitors for Fairbanks, but they don’t appear to be part of his market that includes the the Toronto Blue Jays and Miami Marlins, according to Ken Rosenthal and Katie Woo of The Athletic:
With Ryan Helsley off the market, Pete Fairbanks might be the next closer to sign. The Toronto Blue Jays and Miami Marlins are among the teams interested in him, according to industry sources briefed on his market.
The Dodgers reportedly had interest in Fairbanks at the trade deadline this year, though the Rays ultimately decided to keep their closer.
Since the start of the 2020 season, Fairbanks ranks 15th in FIP (2.95), 16th in WAR (5.5) and saves (88), 17th in strikeouts per nine (11.2) and 19th in ERA (2.90) among relief pitchers with at least 200 innings.
Fairbanks finished his Rays career with 90 saves, which is third-most in franchise history behind Roberto Hernandez (101) and Alex Colomé (95).
Dodgers bullpen targets
L.A. has also been connected to Williams, who they nearly acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers last offseason before he was sent to the New York Yankees.
The Dodgers additionally made a contract offer to Iglesias, said to be similar to the one year and $16 million pact he agreed to in order to return to the Braves.
