Diego Cartaya headlined the seven Los Angeles Dodgers prospects ranked by MLB Pipeline in their top 100 for the 2023 season, checking in at No. 14 overall in baseball.
The seven Dodgers earning recognition from MLB Pipeline follows the six prospects ranked in the Baseball America top 100 for this season, and nine appearing on the Baseball Prospectus top 101.
The latest wave of Dodgers prospects played a significant role in the team’s approach during free agency this offseason, as the front office was cognizant of creating opportunities for young talent that’s on the precipice of making an impact at the Major League level.
Dodgers prospects ranked by MLB Pipeline
Diego Cartaya (No. 14)
Cartaya previously was ranked the No. 2 catching prospect by MLB Pipeline, along with 18th overall by Baseball America and No. 19 by Baseball Prospectus.
He was the Dodgers’ 2022 Branch Rickey Minor League Player of the Year after batting a combined .254/.389/.503 with 22 doubles, 22 home runs and 72 RBI for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga and High-A Great Lakes. Cartaya was among the Dodgers’ representatives in the 2022 MLB All-Star Futures Game at Dodger Stadium.
The 21-year-old remains at least two years from likely making his MLB debut.
Bobby Miller (No. 24)
Miller was ranked the sixth-best right-handed pitching prospect by MLB Pipeline, in addition to earning recognition from Baseball America (No. 21) and Baseball Prospectus (No. 27).
Miller went a combined 6-6 with a 4.45 ERA, 1.20 WHIP across 91 innings pitched between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City in 20 games (19 starts) last year. He also participated in the 2022 All-Star Futures Game.
Miguel Vargas (No. 37)
Vargas was rated the No. 5 third base prospect by MLB Pipeline, and overall earned a ranking at 30th by Baseball America and 39th via Baseball Prospectus.
Vargas hit .304/.402/.511 with 17 home runs, 82 RBI, 99 runs scored and 16 stolen bases in 112 games with Oklahoma City and earned a selection to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team.
He additionally made his MLB debut last season and is primed to take on a larger role with the Dodgers this season.
Michael Busch (No. 54)
Busch was ranked the No. 2 second base prospect by MLB Pipeline, and appeared at No. 54 on Baseball America’s list and No. 59 by Baseball Prospectus.
Busch batted a combined .274/.365/.516 with 38 doubles, 32 home runs and 108 RBI during time the Drillers and OKC last year. Busch is a candidate to make his MLB debut at some point during the 2023 season.
Gavin Stone (No. 56)
MLB Pipeline ranked Stone the No. 10 right-handed pitching prospect, and he placed 50th overall on the Baseball Prospectus list and No. 56 in Baseball America’s rankings.
Stone pitched for the Loons, Drillers and OKC last year, going a combined 9-6 with an impressive 1.48 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 121.2 innings pitched (26 games; 25 starts).
Ryan Pepiot (No. 70)
Pepiot previously was ranked the No. 55 overall prospect by Baseball America.
The right-hander made his MLB debut last season, going 3-0 with a 3.47 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in nine games (seven starts) for the Dodgers.
While with OKC, Pepiot pitched to a 2.56 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 91.1 innings.
Andy Pages (No. 81)
Among prospect rankings for the 2023 season, Pages only appeared on the Baseball Prospectus list (No. 90) prior to MLB Pipeline’s unveiling.
Pages spent all of last season with the Drillers, batting .236/.336/.468 with 29 doubles, 26 home runs and 80 RBI in 132 games.
