Despite parting ways with some notable prospects over the offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers head into the 2020 season with one of the deepest farm systems in all of baseball.
Gavin Lux and Dustin May lead the pack, earning the first two spots in MLB Pipeline’s top 10 prospects list for the organization. Rounding out the rankings in order are Josiah Gray, Keibert Ruiz, Brusdar Graterol, Tony Gonsolin, Kody Hoese, Michael Busch, Diego Cartaya and Luis Rodriguez.
Mitchell White (No. 11), DJ Peters (No. 13), Dennis Santana (No. 16) and Edwin Rios (No. 18) are among the Dodgers prospects that fell out of the top-10 rankings, but still placed in the top 30.
Lux is coming off a historic 2019 season in which he hit a combined .347/.421/.607 with 25 doubles, eight triples, 26 home runs and 76 RBI between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City.
He went on to post a .705 on-base plus slugging in 23 games at the Major League level before earning a spot on the Dodgers’ National League Division Series roster.
May navigated a path similar to that of Lux, also beginning the 2019 season with the Drillers before joining Oklahoma City and eventually making his MLB debut. He went 2-3 with a 3.63 ERA in 34.2 innings for the Dodgers, primarily pitching out of the bullpen.
Gray was acquired by the Dodgers from the Cincinnati Reds during the 2018 offseason and enjoyed a breakout season, seeing time with three different affiliates.
Ruiz split time with Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City before a broken finger ended his season in July. His numbers dipped from the previous year, although he is still considered one of the better catching prospects heading into 2020.
Graterol joined the Dodgers during the offseason in a trade with the Minnesota Twins that saw Kenta Maeda head to the American League. The 21-year-old made his MLB debut last year, appearing in 10 games out of the bullpen and collecting 10 strikeouts over 9.2 innings pitched.
Gonsolin was one of the eight Dodgers rookies who made their MLB debut last season. He thrived in both the starting rotation and bullpen, compiling a 4-2 record, 2.93 ERA, 3.86 FIP and 1.03 WHIP over 40 innings pitched.
Hoese was drafted by the Dodgers with the 25th overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. He appeared in 41 games between the club’s Rookie-level affiliate and Low-A Great Lakes, hitting .299/.380/.483 with eight doubles, two triples, five home runs and 29 RBI across 171 plate appearances.
Busch was limited to just 10 games in his first professional season last year due to a hand injury, but returned to action for the Glendale Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League, hitting .231/.545/.462 with three hits, one home run and nine walks across 22 plate appearances.
Cartaya impressed in his first professional season, posting a .775 OPS with 18 extra-base hits and 22 RBI over 49 games between the Arizona League and Dominican Summer League.
Rodriguez, 16, was part of the Dodgers’ haul during the 2019-20 international signing period.
