Dodgers Trade Deadline Rumors: Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax & Louis Varland Interest

3 Min Read

By all accounts the Los Angeles Dodgers will make a move to address their bullpen before the MLB trade deadline at 3 p.m. PT on Thursday.

Manager Dave Roberts publicly declared that an area of need, and said specifically the Dodgers needed a reliever who could have success against right-handed batters in leverage situations.

The Dodgers have been connected to a slew of options over recent weeks, and in most cases that’s come as part of widespread interest in any given reliever.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Dodgers have discussed Jhoan Duran, Louis Varland and Griffin Jax in discussions with the Minnesota Twins:

The Dodgers previously were connected to Duran and Jax, both of whom are under team control through the 2027 season. Duran set of rampant speculation on Tuesday night when he was seen hugging his bullpen catcher during the game.

Jax has expressed a desire to remain with the Twins beyond the trade deadline but is understanding that might not be a likely outcome.

Varland also comes with multiple years of team control as he’s yet to so much reach arbitration. He’s the brother of Gus Varland, who had multiple stints with the Dodgers.

In addition to the aforementioned trio of relief pitchers, the Dodgers are also believed to have interest in Harrison Bader.

MLB trade deadline: Minnesota Twins buyers or sellers?

There’s a belief the Twins are looking to shed salary at the trade deadline in a connection to the franchise being up for sale. The Twins have been owned by the Pohlad family since 1984, and they reportedly are seeking at least $1.7 billion for the rights to take over the franchise.

However, while speaking with members of the media this week, Twins president of baseball and business operations Derek Falvey declined to state whether the front office was taking a buying or selling approach to the trade deadline.
