Mookie Betts led the Los Angeles Dodgers with a game-high three RBI in a 9-5 win over the San Francisco Giants, but the night centered around the death of legendary broadcaster Vin Scully at 94 years old.
News of Scully passing away became public shortly after 8 p.m. PT, but unaware if Dodgers players had been informed, the Giants waited until after the game to pay their respects to the Hall of Fame broadcaster.
During a two-hour tribute on SportsNet LA, Rick Monday revealed Giants CEO Larry Baer went into the radio booth to inform them why a message would not be put up on the video board at Oracle Park until after the final out was recorded.
Several Dodgers players took notice during the handshakes line, which put a damper on their sixth consecutive win against the Giants.

Prior to that somber moment, Betts went 3-for-5 with a double, home run and aforementioned three RBI.
Gavin Lux and Cody Bellinger each drove in two runs.
Joe Davis shares Vin Scully story
On the verge of being hired to replace Scully, Joe Davis received two phone calls from the longtime voice of the Dodgers but ignored them because he feared the forthcoming announcement had leaked to a reporter.
Davis retold the story during the SportsNet LA telecast, and recited a voicemail Scully left him about being “0-for-2” to start their friendship.
Davis was joined in the booth by Jessica Mendoza, a Southern California native who shared her own touching memories of Scully throughout the game.
