The Los Angeles Dodgers’ High-A affiliate Great Lakes Loons announced their coaching staff for the 2023 season, which will be led by first-year manager Daniel Nava.
Nava becomes the 10th manager in the 16-year history of the Loons, replacing Austin Chubb, who is not serving as an assistant Minor League field coordinator.
Nava is entering his third season coaching in the Dodgers organization after managing the ACL Dodgers in 2021 and serving as bench coach for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga last season.
Another newcomer on the Loons coaching staff for 2023 is hitting coach O’Koyea Dickson. The 32-year-old is a former player in the Dodgers farm system who made his MLB debut during the 2017 season. Dickson is entering his second year as a coach after serving as the Quakes hitting coach last season.
Meanwhile, David Anderson returns for his second year as Loons pitching coach. Under his guidance, the Great Lakes pitching staff had the most wins and strikeouts, and lowest opponent’s batting average last season.
Richard De Los Santos also returns for a second season on the Loons coaching staff after serving as assistant pitching coach in 2022. This year De Los Santos and Anderson will share the title of pitching coach.
Elian Herrera additionally is back for a third season as the Great Lakes bench coach. A four-year big leaguer, he is heading into his fifth season as a coach in the Dodgers organization.
Rounding out the Loons coaching staff is performance coach Ethan Quarles, and newcomers Ikuo Kato and Joe Manno, who will serve as the athletic trainer and affiliate development associate, respectively.
Great Lakes Loons open 2023 season on April 7
The Loons will begin the 2023 regular season at Dow Diamond on Friday, April 7, when they host the San Lansing Lugnuts. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. PT.
