Former Los Angeles Dodgers World Series champion Joe Kelly and recording artist JoJo Siwa joined Dancers Against Cancer (DAC) for their second annual charity golf tournament at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine, Calif.
“We’re excited to have them out,” Dancers Against Cancer president and LINEUP Sports Cards founder Adrian Ruiz told DodgerBlue.com.
Influencer, dancer and cancer survivor Tia Stokes; celebrity choreographer Cris Judd; professional golfer Sara Camarena; golf influencers Malosi Togisala, Geena Martinez and Audrey Mittel were among those also on hand.
The event built on the non-profit organization raising more than $100,000 from its inaugural tournament. Proceeds from the charity event directly benefit members of the dance community facing cancer by providing financial assistance for medical expenses, treatments and other essential needs.
Siwa also presented a $10,000 donation check on behalf of Dancers Against Cancer to to dance teacher Gabrielle Aquino, who is undergoing treatment for stage 4 breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
“I’ve been a part of the charity for as long as I can remember,” Siwa said of her involvement with DAC. “It’s a beautiful, beautiful cause, helping families related to dance in anyway. Dance teachers, dance parents, dance grandparents, studio owners, kids affected by cancer as well.
“Beautiful, beautiful cause that is awesome to raise money for.”
Joe Kelly’s connection
For Kelly, helping Dancers Against Cancer raise awareness and financial support stemmed from a personal connection. He recently lost a neighbor to cancer and his daughter entered into the dancing world last year.
“Dancers Against Cancer is a great foundation. Everyone knows someone, whether it’s family or friends, that has been affected by cancer,” Kelly said. “I’m out here to support and raise awareness.”
Ironically, despite last pitching during the 2024 season, Kelly felt he’s regressed on the golf course since retiring.
“Horrible. My golf game was at its peak when I was playing. I had more time to play,” Kelly noted. “Now that I’m officially done playing, my wife has seemed to sign my kids and herself up for more events and more things. The golf game is probably dead last on my list of things to do.”
When asked which former Dodgers teammates he would choose to complete a foursome on the golf course, Kelly chose David Price, Mookie Betts and Will Smith.
