Jhoan Duran Trade Rumors: Mariners, Dodgers & Phillies Among Teams Pursuing Twins Closer

3 Min Read

UPDATE (July 30, 3:35 p.m. PT): Minnesota Twins reportedly traded Jhoan Duran to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for prospects Mick Abel and Eduardo Tait.

The Minnesota Twins have seemingly taken center stage with the MLB trade deadline now 24 hours away, as teams remain in pursuit of Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax, Harrison Bader, Carlos Correa and Louis Varland.

Duran and Jax are the subject of widespread interest due to multiple teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, being in search of bullpen help before 3 p.m. PT on Thursday. After some uncertainty over which direction the Twins would take at the deadline, there’s now a belief they will move forward with trading Duran.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Dodgers and Seattle Mariners are among the teams that remain in pursuit of a trade for Duran:

The Mariners already made a move to address their bullpen by acquiring Caleb Ferguson, but still are in the picture for Duran, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post:

There have been conflicting reports on the Dodgers’ level of interest in acquiring a top relief pitcher such as Duran. They previously were reported as being out with respect to the top of the bullpen market, with Athletics closer Mason Miller also said to not be an option for L.A.

If the Dodgers are to pursue a trade involving Duran, it stands to reason they would likely look to have it expanded to include Harrison Bader as part of their search for an outfielder.

Do the Dodgers need Jhoan Duran?

Manager Dave Roberts recently indicated the Dodgers would look to trade for a right-handed relief pitcher who could pitch in high-leverage situations. Duran certainly fits that mold, but the cost for a potential deal is presumed to be significant.

While that may be a deterrent for the Dodgers, trading for Duran would not only aid the bullpen in the immediate future but looking forward as well. He’s under team control via salary arbitration through the 2027 season.
