Mookie Betts: Dodgers Haven’t Played To Full Potential Through First Half Of 2022 Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers reached the halfway point of the 2022 season with a 52-29 record, which is good for the best mark in the National League.

The Dodgers are well on their way toward a 10th consecutive postseason appearance but Mookie Betts believes the team hasn’t quite played to their potential. “I think we’ve played alright,” he began.

“We haven’t really got hot like we’re capable of, but we’ve been able to be somewhat kind of consistent, and that’s kind of the name of the game. In the end hopefully we can get on a run and make a bigger gap. Until then we’ve got to take it one game at a time.”

That the Dodgers have yet to click on all cylinders but still are on pace to win more than 100 games doesn’t surprise Betts. “We’ve just got a really good team. We don’t have to be hot to win, but it would be nice,” he said.

The Dodgers are playing their best baseball of the season, winning 14 of their last 20 games, which coincides with manager Dave Roberts criticizing the team for straying away from a mindset of doing whatever it takes to win.

“I don’t know, man,” Betts said when asked if the team is moving closer to a hot streak. “I don’t think we pay a whole lot of attention to it. It’s just one game at a time and don’t worry about the waves.”

How Dodgers record compares

When the Dodgers tied a franchise record with 106 wins last season, they were 50-31 at the midway point. When they won 106 games in 2019, the Dodgers were 55-26 halfway through the season.
