The Los Angeles Dodgers mounted a late rally in the afternoon game and now can sweep the Miami Marlins in the rare doubleheader at Dodger Stadium to finish off their homestand.
Julio Urías is on the mound for his 19th start of the season and with another opportunity to continue his recent turnaround. He allowed three runs to the Colorado Rockies over seven innings last week but prior to that turned in consecutive scoreless starts.
“I’m starting to focus more on getting hitters off pitch to pitch, going through sequences, making adjustments in at-bats and just attacking,” Urías said through an interpreter after tying a career high with 12 strikeouts against the Rockies.
“Keep attacking the zone and attacking hitters.”
Urías enters 10-6 with a 4.35 ERA and 1.12 WHIP.
The Marlins counter with Braxton Garrett, who is the first southpaw starter the Dodgers have faced in the series. Garrett is 7-3 with a 3.91 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 24 games (23 starts) this season.
He’s coming off five scoreless innings and faces a Dodgers lineup that includes just two left-handed hitters.
Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, Chris Taylor, James Outman and Kiké Hernández are completing double duty Saturday. Though, Betts played second base in the afternoon game, Smith was the designated hitter, and Hernández started at shortstop. Taylor and Outman are in their same positions from the first game of the doubleheader.
J.D. Martinez is also in the Dodgers lineup after being held out of the afternoon matchup.
