The Boston Red Sox unveiled their Nike City Connect uniform, which was designed in collaboration with the brand to capture the spirit of Patriots’ Day weekend and unique bond between the team and city.
The Red Sox will be the first of seven clubs to debut the uniforms being rolled out by Nike this season. The group of inaugural teams selected for the City Connect Series includes the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins and San Francisco Giants.
“Nike is uniquely suited for our relationship with MLB because we like pushing the edges of creativity across the board, but it’s always done out of a place of supporting the players and advancing the sport,” Nike vice president of North American League partnerships Sonja Henning said in a statement.
“We take that same attentive energy in hearing insight from athletes and apply that to visualizing new and familiar relationships between clubs, cities and fans.”

The Red Sox City Connect uniform adopts colors that honor the spirit of Patriots’ Day weekend and features “Boston” in a stencil font across the chest paying tribute to the Boylston Street finish line.
The numbers “617” are highlighted on the left sleeve as a nod to the area code for Boston and Fenway Park. The numbers appear within a racing bib, honoring one of the city’s most iconic annual sports traditions.
The Dodgers’ design, which is expected to be worn in August, has not yet been unveiled. If the Red Sox are any indication of what’s to come, L.A. could be in store for an infusion of color with their City Connect jersey.
Justin Turner recently advocated for the Dodgers incorporating their blue Spring Training top as a road alternate jersey for the regular season.
Nike City Connect designs strive to explore a franchise’s connection to its city and fanbase, each with distinct personalities, values, customs and traditions.
The Red Sox City Connect jersey released Tuesday on the SNKRS app, Nike.com, the MLB Flagship Store in New York, and at select retail locations. Subsequent City Connect releases are expected to be similarly available.
Dodgers gold series
In addition to an eventual City Connect option, the Dodgers are introducing a new jersey this season with the gold series as defending World Series champions. The team will wear a gold-trimmed cap and jersey throughout the entire three-game set against the Washington Nationals.
