Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Jacob Scavuzzo was named the Texas League Hitter of the Week in recognition of his play with Double-A Tulsa from July 16-22, 2018.
Starting in seven games during that stretch, Scavuzzo went 15-for-28 with three doubles, four home runs, nine RBI and three stolen bases. It was good for a .536/.581/1.071 slash line, though the Drillers only managed to go 2-5 in those games.
The 24-year-old extended his hitting streak to 21 games during that stretch, before seeing it snapped with an 0-for-4 effort on July 20.
Overall this season, Scavuzzo’s second with the Drillers, he’s been among the team’s better hitters. He enters play Wednesday batting .293/.332/.579 with 19 doubles, 16 home runs and 52 RBI.
His time with Tulsa was interrupted for one month spent with Triple-A Oklahoma City from May into early June.
Playing with Oklahoma City further fueled Scavuzzo’s desire to reach the Majors. The Dodgers selected Scavuzzo in the 21st round of the 2012 Draft.
He joins Drew Jackson as Drillers to earn Texas League honors this season, as Jackson was also named the circuit’s Hitter of the Week back in May.
