The Los Angeles Dodgers announced ahead of Saturday’s game that they have placed Alex Wood on the 10-day disabled list with left abductor tendinitis and activated reliever Zac Rosscup.
Wood started Friday night’s series opener against Houston and gave up just four hits and two runs (one earned) in six innings while striking out four and walking three.
He came out to begin the seventh inning, but felt a cramp in his hamstring while he was warming up so he wound up being removed for the game in favor of reliever Dylan Floro. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the removal was just precautionary, although now it seems like the injury is a little more serious than originally thought even if he is just forced to miss the minimum 10 days.
Up until this point, Wood had been the only Dodgers starter that hasn’t spent time on the disabled list this season. Overall in 22 starts, he is 7-6 with a 3.58 ERA, 3.55 FIP and 1.17 WHIP while striking out 107 and walking 30 in 123.1 innings.
While he is out, Wood will be replaced in the rotation by Ross Stripling, who is expected to come off the disabled list this upcoming week. He will just around the minimum 10 days as he nurses a toe injury.
Rosscup, a recently acquired lefty specialist from the Colorado Rockies, was out with a blister on his throwing hand. He appeared in four games for the Dodgers before landing on the disabled list, although he only pitched one total inning.
