After beginning the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, utility man Rob Segedin managed to play in all of two games, making one start, with the Los Angeles Dodgers upon being recalled April 17.

Segedin appeared as a pinch-hitter on April 18, which is when he suffered a right big toe sprain while breaking out of the batter’s box. A timeline was not put in place, but a reasonable estimate suggested Segedin would miss at least two weeks.

Having reached that point, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on Segedin, who isn’t close to returning and will eventually need to go on a rehab assignment, via Austin Laymance on MLB.com:

“He’s in Arizona right now doing some baseball activities, but he still says that it’s not right,” Roberts said. “I know, obviously, every day he’s getting better, but I think that with the time he’s missed, it’s still, once he starts, it’s going to be certainly a week of games at least to show that he’s healthy.”

After a strong spring both with the Dodgers and Italy in the World Baseball Classic, Segedin batted .324/.342/.521 with two home runs and five RBIs over nine games with Oklahoma City.

In the two games he appeared in with the Dodgers before being placed on the disabled list, he went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts and a run scored.

Segedin has blistered pitching in the Minor League level, but has struggled a bit in his time with the Dodgers, as in 40 games last season he hit .233/.301/.370 with two home runs and 12 RBIs.

When Segedin does return it is likely that he will return to OKC to prove he is 100 percent healthy before returning to the Majors, barring any injuries.
