Mookie Betts was named National League Player of the Week for Aug. 22-28, joining Freddie Freeman (June 20-26 and July 11-17) and Cody Bellinger (April 18-24) as members of the Los Angeles Dodgers to earn the honor this season.
Betts previously was named Player of the Week on three separate occasions during his time with the Boston Red Sox in the American League. Betts batted .346 (9-for-26) with nine runs, three doubles, four home runs, seven RBI, one stolen base and a .923 slugging percentage across six games during the latest span he was recognized for.
The six-time All-Star had a particularly productive weekend against the Miami Marlins, recording eight hits (four homers), seven RBI and a stolen base across three games at loanDepot Park.
Betts became the fourth player in Dodgers history to reach those totals across any three-game span, joining Shawn Green (2001), Jim Wynn (1974) and Hall of Famer Roy Campanella (1953).
Betts delivered his 20th career multi-home run game out of the leadoff spot in Friday’s series opener against the Marlins, which is now the most such games in MLB history.
Betts entered play Monday on a five-game hitting streak with at least one run scored. The 29-year-old has logged at least one run in 20-of-24 games thus far in August.
Betts for the season is batting a stellar .281/.350/.560 with 28 doubles, 31 home runs, 69 RBI, 99 runs scored and 12 stolen bases across 500 plate appearances (108 games). He’s on track to set a new career high in home runs, which currently is 32 that came during an MVP season for the Red Sox in 2018.
