The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed right-handed pitcher Dylan Floro off waivers from the Chicago Cubs and optioned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Floro was designated for assignment by the Cubs on July 31 as part of creating roster space for the acquisitions of Alex Avila and Justin Wilson.

Floro has a previous connection to Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, as he was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 13th round of the 2012 Draft. Floro also has ties to Southern California as he attended California State University, Fullerton.

Floro made his MLB debut with the Rays last season, going 0-1 with a 4.20 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in 12 games. The Cubs claimed Floro off waivers during the offseason season.

They later designated him for assignment, sent the 26-year-old outright to Triple-A Iowa once he cleared waivers, and extended a non-roster invitation to Spring Training.

Floro appeared in three games with the Cubs this season, allowing a combined seven runs in 9.2 innings of relief (6.52 ERA), while striking out six batters against two walks. With Iowa, he went 3-2 with one save, a 3.88 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 25 games (two starts).

In 15 career Major League games, Floro is 0-1 with a 5.11 ERA and 1.82 WHIP. Over parts of six seasons in the Minors with the Rays (2012-16) and Cubs (2017) organizations, he’s 39-32 with 10 saves and a 3.35 ERA in 151 games (75 starts).

The Dodgers transferred Franklin Gutierrez to the 60-day disabled list in order to create room for Floro on their 40-man roster. Gutierrez had been on the 10-day DL since June 25 due to ankylosis spondylitis.
