This past week was a big one for the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system as in addition to all six levels making their respective postseasons, a trio of players also took home Minor League honors.
Double-A Tulsa outfielder D.J. Peters and High-A Rancho Cucamonga outfielder Cody Thomas were named the Players of the Week in the Texas and California Leagues, respectively. Additionally, Rookie-level Ogden Raptors pitcher Justin Hagenman was named the Pitcher of the Week in the Pioneer League.
All three prospects were recognized for the period of Aug. 27-Sept. 2.
Peters was a fourth-round pick of the Dodgers in 2016 out of Western Nevada College and is currently their No. 8 prospect according to MLB.com. Throughout the week, he hit .444/.483/1.074 with five home runs and two doubles.
Overall in 132 games this season, Peters is hitting .236/.320/.473 with a career-high 29 home runs to go along with 60 RBI.
The Dodgers drafted Thomas in the 13th round out of Oklahoma and is in the midst of a breakout season with the Quakes. He is slashing .285/.355/.497 with 19 home runs and 87 RBI, and that was capped off by a week in which he hit .424/.500/.818 with two home runs and five doubles to earn the honor.
Hagenman was a more recent draft pick, being selected in the 23rd round this year out of Penn State. He has pitched with both Ogden and Low-A Great Lakes this season, appearing in 14 total games while pitching to a 4.80 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. The right-hander has 29 total strikeouts and eight walks in 30 innings between the two levels.
Hagenman had two separate outings of three scoreless innings this past week that led to him being the first Ogden pitcher to take home Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
