Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Placed On DL With Bicep Tendonitis, Brock Stewart Recalled From OKC

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed ace Clayton Kershaw on the 10-day disabled list with left bicep tendonitis and recalled right-hander Brock Stewart from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Kershaw was scheduled to start on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and there were no previous reports of him being injured after his last start, so this move is a bit of a surprise.

It is unknown how long Kershaw will be out for, but the fact that it is an arm injury does not bode well for the seven-time All-Star.

Kershaw hadn’t gotten off to the best start to the 2018 season, as his velocity wasn’t quite where it has been throughout his career, which could be attributed to the bicep injury.

Overall in seven starts, Kershaw is 1-4 with a 2.86 ERA, 3.73 FIP and 1.14 WHIP while striking out 48 and walking 10 in 44 innings of work.

This marks Stewart’s second stint with the Dodgers after being called up and making one relief appearance last week against the Diamondbacks. He gave up three hits and a run in 1.2 innings.

In four starts so far this season with Oklahoma City, Stewart is 1-0 with a 2.41 ERA and 1.02 WHIP, striking out 20 compared to just six walks in 18.2 innings.

With Kershaw out, the Dodgers now have another spot open in their starting rotation. With Walker Buehler already taking the place of Hyun-Jin Ryu, either Stewart or Ross Stripling will take Kershaw’s place with the other likely handling long relief duties.
