Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Plans To Play Through Toe Fracture After Yankees Series

3 Min Read

Mookie Betts was scratched from the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup on Friday due to what manager Dave Roberts said was an issue with a toe on his left foot.

Roberts wasn’t sure of the specifics, but indicated Betts stubbed his toe while at home on Wednesday night. He was set to undergo an X-ray and likely wasn’t going to be available for the first game of a World Series rematch against the New York Yankees.

The Dodgers have not yet announced the results of Betts’ X-ray, but according to Dylan Hernández and Jack Harris of the L.A. Times, he fractured a toe:

Betts told the Times on Friday night that he fractured his toe at home this week, after the Dodgers returned from a road trip on Wednesday night.

“I was just going to the bathroom in the dark and hit my toe on a wall,” he said.

When asked about the results of Betts’ X-rays after the Dodgers’ comeback win, Roberts claimed to not have the information. He reiterated Betts’ status to be day-to-day moving forward.

“For me, I haven’t really dug in right now too much because I know it’s at the tip of his toe,” Roberts added. “So it’s going to be one of those situations where it’s per his (pain) tolerance.”

The fracture is on the tip of the second toe in Betts’ left foot. He left Dodger Stadium on Friday night without the assistance of crutches or wearing a boot, but walking with a noticeable limp.

Is Mookie Betts going on injured list?

While Betts is likely to play in either of the remaining two games against the Yankees, the Dodgers don’t anticipate needing to place him on the 10-day injured list.

The issue nevertheless is somewhat of a hurdle for Betts in what was shaping up to be an impressive season at shortstop defensively even if it’s been accompanied by some struggles at the plate.
