Dodgers Injury Update: Danny Duffy & Victor González Stop Rehab Assignments

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the doorstep of clinching the National League West division title, which will then allow them to fully turn their attention to preparing their roster for the postseason.

They currently have a multitude of pitchers on the injured list but with many of them progressing toward a return, including Tommy Kahnle, Yency Almonte and Brusdar Graterol. However, the same can’t be said about Danny Duffy and Victor González, who have both yet to pitch for the Dodgers this season.

The southpaws were on rehab assignments with Triple-A Oklahoma City and hoping to work their way back to a return in the middle of September, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said they have been shut down, per Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

According to Roberts, both Danny Duffy and Victor Gonzalez have stopped their rehab assignments with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Duffy wasn’t responding well between outings for OKC, and González started to experience arm fatigue.

The Dodgers acquired Duffy at the trade deadline last season but he never pitched for the team after suffering a setback when trying to return from a left flexor tendon strain. The 33-year-old underwent offseason surgery and was re-signed to a one-year contract with the intention of returning around the middle of this season.

After being ruled out for the remainder of the year, Duffy overcame elbow soreness and began a rehab assignment with the Arizona Complex League Dodgers before joining Oklahoma City. He has appeared in seven games for OKC, throwing 6.2 innings with a 5.40 ERA.

González had a strong Spring Training but he began dealing with left elbow inflammation and was placed on the 10-day IL when the Dodgers set their Opening Day Roster. The 26-year-old underwent a cleanup procedure on his elbow that kept him out longer than originally anticipated.

González appeared in nine rehab games, throwing 8.2 innings with a 4.15 ERA.

It’s unclear if either will resume their rehab assignment, but time is running out for either of them to make enough of an impact to earn a postseason roster spot even if they are able to return.

Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman named NL Player of the Week

After batting .546/.593/1.046 from Sept. 5-11, Freddie Freeman was recognized for his hot-hitting by being named the NL Player of the Week.

It’s the third time this season Freeman has received NL Player of the Week honors. His first came for performances during June 20-26, and he again received the honor for July 11-17.
