Dodgers Injury News: Kenta Maeda Removed From Start Against Phillies Due To Right Hip Strain

Los Angeles Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda was removed with two outs in the second inning on Tuesday night due to a right hip strain. Maeda was checked on a first time by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and trainer Neil Rampe before initially remaining in the game.

He threw a warmup pitch, didn’t appear comfortable, then threw a second and continued on with the start. As Roberts and Rampe emerged a second time from the dugout, Maeda signaled that the mound visit wasn’t necessary.

However, he was unable to convince Roberts of as much and gave way to Scott Alexander. Maeda allowed a leadoff home run to Nick Williams in the second inning and three hits overall. Alexander issued a walk, allowed an infield single and two-run base hit before getting out of the inning.

If the right-hander is to land on the disabled list, the Dodgers will be without four of their expected starters. Though, Clayton Kershaw is on the verge of returning from biceps tendinitis on Thursday.

Maeda entered with a 15.1 scoreless inning streak that dated back to his May 11 start against the Cincinnati Reds. He’d emerged as one of the Dodgers’ better starters of late, helping the team withstand the loss of Kershaw.
