Dodgers Highlights: Mookie Betts Goes Deep Twice In 7-Homer Game To Sweep Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers took the field Sunday afternoon with a chance to sweep the Colorado Rockies, and they took care of business by cruising to an 11-3 victory.

The Dodgers lead all of baseball in home runs, and they widened that gap in the series finale at Dodger Stadium with a season-best seven-homer game.

Corey Seager got things started in the bottom of the first with a solo shot to left for his seventh of the season. It didn’t look like Seager got it all off the bat, but it just kept carrying until it got out, which was the first signal that the ball would be leaving the ballpark with plenty of frequency on a warm afternoon.

Mookie Betts emerged from a mini slump with yet another multi-home run game as a member of the Dodgers. He hit a solo shot in the third inning and then capped off the offensive outburst with a two-run shot in the eighth to give him 11 on the season.

Betts is tied for second in all of baseball behind only the San Diego Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr., who has 12.

Kiké Hernandez hit the only three-run homer of the game for the Dodgers, blowing it open in the fourth inning. Hernandez signaled shooting a 3-pointer as he crossed home plate, honoring the late Lakers legend Kobe Bryant on what would have been his 42nd birthday.

In his first game of the 10-day injured list, Will Smith got in on the action with a homer of his own in the seventh inning. It appears the neck issue he dealt with is a thing of the past as the Dodgers’ young catcher is now up to three homers on the season.

Bellinger and Muncy continue to break out of slumps

The final two home runs of the day came off the bats of Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy, both of whom are continuing to break out of their early-season slumps.

Bellinger now has six home runs in his last 10 games to give him eight total on the season. After reaching base two more times on Sunday, Bellinger is now batting a much more respectable .211/.291/.447 on the year.

Muncy now has seven home runs on the season and three in his last eight games. With Bellinger and Muncy beginning to round into form, the Dodgers’ offense is looking playoff-ready with a little over a month to go in the regular season.
