Dodgers Activate Pedro Baez, Place Zac Rosscup On 10-Day Disabled List

In addition to recalling Walker Buehler from Triple-A Oklahoma City for Wednesday’s start against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Los Angeles Dodgers activated Pedro Baez and placed Zac Rosscup on the 10-day disabled list with left middle finger inflammation.

Baez had been sidelined for the last month and a half due to biceps tendinitis. He was originally expected to be activated for Thursday’s series opener against the Atlanta Braves, but Tuesday night’s 16-inning game forced him to be pushed up a day earlier to aid a taxed bullpen.

The Dodgers used seven relievers in the loss (Caleb Ferguson was unavailable), and finished the night with Kiké Hernandez on the mound as he surrendered a walk-off home run.

In 30 games this season, Baez has posted a 3.23 ERA, 3.32 FIP and 1.50 WHIP with 36 strikeouts and 16 walks across 30.2 innings.

The Dodgers claimed Rosscup off waivers from the Colorado Rockies on July 11, and he was added to their active roster three days later when Buehler was optioned to Oklahoma City.

Rosscup has logged one-plus hitless innings over four relief appearances for Los Angeles. He retired the lone batter faced in each of his first three games out of the bullpen for the Dodgers, but walked a batter Tuesday night and was promptly removed.

His time with the Dodgers was Rosscup’s first in the Majors this season. He appeared in nine games for the Rockies and one with the Chicago Cubs in 2017.
