For a second time this season a game at Dodger Stadium went into a delay because of a power outage. Whereas the first instance occurred in the second inning, Saturday’s power failure came in the bottom of the 12th, with the potential game-winning run on second base.
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced it would be 15 minutes for the power to turn back on and lights to warm up. However, the delay went just over, and for 19 minutes to be exact. The season’s first power outage at Dodger Stadium lasted 23 minutes.
Once play resumed it was over in short order as Justin Turner blooped the first pitch he saw down the right field line for a walk-off single.
It has not yet been determined what specifically caused the loss of power. A statement from the Dodgers said it was due to “a disruption in the city’s power feed to the facility.”
After investigating the first outage of the season, the LA Department of Water and Power determined that was due to a stray mylar balloon making contact with electrical equipment.
The LA DWP also previously explained Dodger Stadium receives power from separate circuits. During the power outage on July 30, the first circuit failed which prompted an immediate switch to the second to restore electricity at Dodger Stadium.
The power outages aren’t the only odd occurrences at Chavez Ravine this year, as a sewage leak cut the finale of the exhibition Freeway Series short.
