Four Dodgers Prospects Earn Player Of The Week Honors For May 25-31

The Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the deepest farm systems in baseball, and that was on full display with four prospects earning weekly honors for May 25-31.

James Tibbs III (Triple-A Oklahoma City), Josue De Paula (Double-A Tulsa), Alex Makarewich (High-A Great Lakes) Jaron Elkins (Class-A Ontario) all received recognition in their respective leagues.

They join Alex Freeland and Isaac Ayon as other Dodgers Minor Leaguers who have earned weekly honors this season.

Dodgers prospects recognized

James Tibbs III

Tibbs was named the Pacific Coast League Player of The Week after hitting .346/.414/1.038 with six home runs and 16 RBI in six games against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Houston Astros’ Triple-A affiliate).

Tibbs homered in four consecutive games and five out of his last six despite being limited to designated hitter duties due to a forearm injury.

The 23-year-old is hitting .322/.426/.659 with 35 extra-base hits and 51 RBI in 54 games for the Comets this season. He leads the PCL in home runs (17), RBI (51), runs scored (55), on-base plus slugging (1.085) and extra-base hits (35).

Josue De Paula

De Paula earned Player of the Week honors in the Texas League after going 12-for-24 (.500) with six doubles, two home runs, six RBI and 11 runs scored across six games against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Kansas City Royals’ Double-A affiliate).

De Paula ended the stretch by recording career highs in hits (four), home runs (two) and runs scored (four) in the Drillers’ 10-9 win over the Naturals on Sunday.

Alex Makarewich

Makarewich was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week after making two relief appearances for the Loons. He held the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds’ High-A affiliate) to just one baserunner over a combined three scoreless innings while striking out eight.

Makarewich did not allow a hit and was credited with the win in the Loons’ 7-3 win over the Dragons on Friday.

Jaron Elkins

Elkins earned Player of the Week honors in the California League despite playing in only four games for the Tower Buzzers. He went 8-for-19 (.421) with two doubles, one triple, three home runs, eight RBI and seven runs scored against the Visalia Rawhide (Arizona Diamondbacks’ Single-A affiliate).

Elkins began the stretch by going 4-for-5 with eight total bases before homering in each of his last three games.
