On the heels of losing heralded analysts Sig Mejdal and Mike Fast, the Houston Astros announced new additions and and several promotions within their Research & Development department, plucking a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers front office in the process.

Ehsan Bokhari was one of two new hires, joining the Astros as director of Research and Development. He spent the past four seasons with the Dodgers as an analyst in that same field. Bokhari was one of the Dodgers’ initial hires for their R&D staff.

Prior to that, he was a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Illinois. Bokhari earned his undergraduate degrees in psychology and mathematics at the University of Arizona in 2011, and received his master’s in statistics and a PhD in quantitative psychology from the University of Illinois in 2014.

Bokhari joins what’s been a growing list of departures from the Dodgers organization since the club lost to the Boston Red Sox in the World Series.

Former third base and infield coach Chris Woodward is now manager of the Texas Rangers, former hitting coach Turner Ward accepted the same position with the Cincinnati Reds and former Minor League hitting coordinator Paco Figueroa is now with the Philadelphia Phillies.

But perhaps the biggest void that now exists was created when Farhan Zaidi left his post as Dodgers general manager in favor of becoming the San Francisco Giants’ president of baseball operations.
