The Los Angeles Dodgers begin their final road series of the series on Tuesday with a matchup that sees the San Diego Padres as the betting favorite in the opener at Petco Park.
Nevertheless, it’s the Dodgers who can move closer to clinching home-field advantage through the World Series and also break the franchise wins record. At 106 wins, the Dodgers are the first team in MLB history with that many in three consecutive full seasons.
The Dodgers previously posted 106 wins in 2019 and 2021, though didn’t win the World Series in either season. Furthermore, none of the 10 Dodgers teams in franchise history to win at least 100 games have also taken home a championship in the same year.
Tyler Anderson takes the mound on extra rest after being pushed back from starting the series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals. Anderson’s start on Tuesday night is just his second since Sept. 12 due to spending a brief stretch on paternity leave.
Anderson is 16-4 with 2.52 ERA and 1.01 WHIP over 28 games (26 starts) this season. He last faced the Padres on Aug. 7, throwing seven shutout innings at Dodger Stadium.
The Padres counter with Blake Snell, who is just 8-9 with a 3.62 ERA and has historically enjoyed success against the Dodgers but not in their last matchup. Snell allowed five runs and only completed four innings at Dodger Stadium on Sept. 10.
Prior to that outing, Snell was 1-0 with a 1.76 ERA in seven career starts against the Dodgers.
The left-hander also is pitching on extra rest and is coming off seven shutout innings that included a season-high 13 strikeouts against the Cardinals.
This week’s series could be a potential National League Division Series preview, though that would require the Padres to advance past the Wild Card round. They currently are slated to face the Atlanta Braves in a best-of-three Wild Card Series.
Prior to the game the Dodgers activated David Price off the 15-day injured list and optioned Andre Jackson to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Price had been out since Sept. 4 due to left wrist inflammation.
