Brandon McCarthy allowed three runs on five hits, including a pair of home runs, in a no-decision against the Seattle Mariners. McCarthy, who was scheduled to go four innings, was removed with two outs in the fourth and the game tied.
The Dodgers took the lead in the fifth inning, exploded for five runs in the fifth, and cruised to a win at Peoria Sports Complex. While Los Angeles faced a one-run deficit after the first inning, they jumped out to an early lead.
After Chris Heston retired Chase Utley and Andrew Toles, the right-hander surrendered a solo home run to Justin Turner. The homer was Turner’s first of Spring Training:
The Dodgers have slow-played their 32-year-old third baseman, as Wednesday’s game was just the 10th Turner appeared in this year. He missed a small stretch of games after receiving a lubricating injection in his right knee.
Turner is on a similar schedule as last spring when he was recovering from microfracture surgery on his left knee. Aside from receiving at-bats on the Minor League side and backfields at Camelback Ranch, Turner played in just 12 Cactus League games last year.
He proceeded to bat .275/.339/.493 with 34 doubles, 27 home runs and 90 RBI over a career-high 151 games. Turner signed a four-year, $64 million contract during the offseason to remain with the Dodgers.
