For everything that’s gone wrong this season and all the challenges the Los Angeles Dodgers have faced, one positive has been Corey Seager.
After usurping the starting job at shortstop from Jimmy Rollins las September, Seager entered 2016 with the position to himself.
While there were no longer questions over who the club’s starting shortstop was, there were plenty of expectations placed on Seager’s shoulders.
He’s somehow managed to exceed those, carrying the Dodgers through the early portion of the season when veterans worked to regain their form.
Seager has essentially locked up the National League Rookie of the Year Award, and entered the conversation for NL MVP.
On Saturday, he hit his 23rd home run of the year, which broke the Dodgers franchise record for most in a single season by a shortstop.

Earlier this month the 22-year-old shortstop broke Eric Karros’ rookie record for most doubles in a season. Seager enters play on Sunday with 37 doubles, already seven more than Karros hit in 1992.
On the season, Seager is batting .322/.376/.545 with 62 RBI in 125 games. He leads the team in batting average, on-base percentage, total hits and doubles, among other categories.
